Why Eating Disorders Are Not Okay

It is very painful to see people who struggle with their self-image to the point where they suffer from an eating disorder such as anorexia or bulimia. I cannot put into words how heartbreaking it is for me to see people who are not proud of the way God made them. Not only is it unhealthy to have an eating disorder, but it also affects a person’s mood and the way they treat those around them. Perfectionism can cause people to turn to this dangerous path, and it saddens me to see that girls especially can think that they are not beautiful if they are not extremely skinny like they see on television and magazines. God created everyone differently in all different shapes and sizes. However, sometimes people can have excess weight that is also a danger to their health, but there are healthy diets to turn to that are safe. With the support of their loved ones, they can become physically healthy again through a lifestyle change rather than a ridiculous diet of not eating or puking what they eat. Girls need to understand that they are beautiful just the way they are and that their outer appearance is not everything. An outer shell that meets the preposterous standards set by the media today is nothing without character, a great personality, and a genuine heart for God.
